What is Sulis?

Sulis is a women centered coworking space.

And I realize that doesn’t really tell you what Sulis is.

It tells you there are the usual things, the obvious and no so obvious things, like a table and desks. It tells you there’s somewhere to plug in your laptop, take a call, get some work done and drink a cup of coffee.

And yes, all of that is true.

But Sulis was never really about the desks or the flex space.

Sulis is a place to go when you want a change of scenery or environment. A place to get out of the house when working from home starts to feel a little too much like living at work.

A place to cross paths with another woman you might not otherwise have met.

A place to ask a question out loud and discover that someone in the room has the answer.

A place to sit beside other women who are building something, figuring something out, starting again, growing, pivoting, creating or simply trying to keep going. And that is one of the most refreshing parts.

Sometimes you come to Sulis because you need to work.

Sometimes you come because you need people, you need women who get it.

Sometimes you come because you have been sitting in the same four walls for three days and need somewhere else to be. Also because you need you.

And sometimes you don't really know what you need until you walk through the door.

That is part of the point. A huge part actually. It is a place to walk in, take a deep breath, drop your shoulders and be intentional, even if that means all you show up for is yourself.

A different kind of third space

There are plenty of places you can work: Coffee shops. Home offices. Libraries. Traditional coworking spaces.

Sulis sits somewhere a little different.

It is a third space for women building businesses, careers and lives alongside one another.

Not a networking group. And also we network.

Not a business club. And also we go clubbing, like book club or other social ones.

Not a place where you need to walk in with an elevator pitch or a stack of business cards. And also, share off the cards, practice that pitch.

You can simply arrive as you are. In fact, that is the point. Because you will leave differently.

You can work quietly and head to the Lounge

Make a coffee or tea. And also, there is sparking water.

Join a conversation, if feeling it.

Ask for an introduction.

Share what you're working on.

Book the private room when you need space for a meeting with a client, online or in-person. Or just some extra focus.

Show up to something happening in the space. Like Manifest Monday.

Or sit at the table and see what unfolds.

There is room for all of it.

The magic is in what happens between the plans

I can plan an event. There is no shortage of ideas.

I can put a theme on the calendar. We love a good theme here.

I can create a membership and give you access to the space.

But I can't manufacture the moment when two people realize they should know each other.

I can't schedule the question that leads to a referral.

I can't plan the conversation that gives someone the perspective they needed.

I can't predict who will walk through the door on a Tuesday afternoon and change the direction of someone else's week.

That is the part of Sulis I care about most. And want to protect.

The space creates the opportunity.

The people create what happens next.

Sulis is a container for connection, community and referrals.

Not because everyone is expected to network with everyone else.

Because when you put good people in the same room, give them somewhere comfortable to land, and remove some of the pressure to perform, things happen. We happen, and the magic follows.

You don't have to do business alone

There is a particular kind of loneliness that can come with building something of your own.

You can be busy all day and still not have spoken to another person. It is isolating.

You can have clients, customers, collaborators and a full inbox and still spend most of your working hours alone.

You can be incredibly capable and still want somewhere to go.

Sulis exists in that space.

It is for the woman who loves working from home but doesn't want to work from home every day.

For the woman who is tired of trying to build everything from her kitchen table, couch, bedroom, or whatever corner she is left with.

For the woman who wants community but doesn't want another obligation.

For the woman who wants to meet people without having to “network.” Or is trying to network and the phase of life means only during school hours.

For the woman who is building something and would simply like to be around other women who understand what that feels like.

And for the woman who isn't quite sure what she is looking for yet. Because clarity happens through action.

So, what actually is Sulis?

It is a coworking space to work.

And is also a place to pause, connect, ask, share, refer, learn, create and be around people.

It is a room full of possibility.

And is also a soft place to land.

A place where ambition meets alignment.

And also, it is simply somewhere to go.

That's Sulis.
